Gas prices
are beginning to be a big concern for many people. We recently purchased a new car. We really wanted to get a SUV but with gas
prices on the rise and only one income in our household we were scared gas
would kill us. Gas prices rise so
gradually so it’s hard to perceive the change in everyday lifestyle. We ended up purchasing a smaller car
instead. I see more and more people
going to cars or smaller SUV’s for the simple fact that gas is getting
ridiculous.

The rising
gas prices are already cutting into America’s spending money. The prices have caused one in three U.S.
consumers to significantly alter and reduce their spending. According to the RBC Consumer Outlook Index,
the average price for gasoline is $3.20 per gallon nationally, 18 % of
consumers say they will decrease their spending if gas prices rise to $3.75 or
over. The price of oil is poised for
another run at $100 or more a barrel. This could easily push our gasoline to $4 a gallon in some parts of the
country this summer. Some are saying as high as $5 a gallon by 2012. http://gantdaily.com/2011/03/04/rising-gas-prices-cutting-into-americans-spending-money/. This
could cause some major travel problems this summer for those people that want
to travel for vacation. My family and I
are planning to drive to Tybee Island and are already nervous that gas prices
may be more than we have budgeted for. The
United States is the world’s largest oil consumer. The recent situation that continues to heat up
in Libya and Iran is used by the oil speculators to keep the price of oil
rising. The economic growth is still
fragile so the crisis will continue to affect the world economy. It is going to make it more difficult for
people to commute to and from work. It
will also cost companies more to transport their products, send mail, and get
supplies. The increase in transportation
costs and needed resources will affect the consumer and their income loss for
basic necessities. The faster our country can develop alternative sources of
fuel that are cost effective, the more likely the price of oil will not affect
our economy. A stable economy will mean a better chance of
growth.
I agree that the prices are ridiculous. The other day I went to fill up my car it’s a Nissan Altima and it cost me 54$ that’s the most money I have ever had to pay to fill me car up since I have had it. That is when I realized that these gas prices are getting out of control I am scared to see how much it will cost me to fill up this summer.
ReplyDeleteI agree gas prices our out of control. Both my fiancé and I work live in Carthage but work in Joplin and a big part of our budget is just spent on gas. With the increasing prices it makes it really hard on us.
ReplyDeleteI know this is dumb because there is nothing I can do about it, but I get really scared when I think about gas prices. Not to have a pity party, but some weeks we struggle just to keep our bills paid and gas in our vehicles to get us to work and back. I uselessly worry though that things are going to get to the point where we have to choose between gas in our cars or keeping our electric and water on. I can only hope and pray that things turn out better then what I fear sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI was going to write about gas prices too. It is crazy how high they have gotten and quick too!! I drive a gas guzzler (however you spell it) so its definately a bit frustrating. ten bucks barely gets me anything anymore! I found a lot of this information interesting!
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, there is nothing anyone can do. Regardless of the prices, people will still be buying the gas.
People can't afford not to go to work and most of them can't just walk.
Its an endless viscious cycle.
I drive a SUV and when I have to fill the tank I really wish I drove a Volkswagen. I wish we as Americans did not have to depend on other countries so much for oil production. Eventually maybe we won't but in the meantime I'm glad to see progress being made on alternative types of fuel efficient vehicles.
